10th Conference on Environmental Education in EuropeThinking and acting outside the box - a European contribution to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development The European Foundation for Education and Sustainable Development and the Centre for Environmental Education & Research in Malta hosted CEEE’s 10th Conference, which was being organised under the aegis of the European Foundation for Education and Sustainable Development (European ESD-net) in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Education & Research, University of Malta. |

The conference was opened by Professor Juanito Camilleri (Rector of the University of Malta), the Honourable Dolores Christina (Minister of Education, Culture, Youth & Sport) and Dr Mark Alderweireldt of European ESD-net, welcoming the participants to the conference. The address on the first day The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development: from here and now to there and then was given by Chris Maas Geesteranus, also from European ESD-net. Day two opened with the address The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development: Environmental Education Challenges in a Complex World by Vincent Caruana (Centre for Environmental Education & Research, Malta). Lively discussions took place in the Round Table Sessions through the conference, which included topics with the themes of: · The transformative nature of individualised environmental education · The transformative nature of community-based environmental education · The politics of environmental education: a tool for empowering disadvantaged and marginalised groups · The politics of environmental education: A tool for empowering learners.
